Rock & Gravel Landscaping in Colorado Springs

Beautiful, zero-maintenance hardscaping that qualifies for CSU rebates and complements any xeriscape planting.

The Beauty of Rock Landscaping

Rock and gravel are among the most versatile materials in xeriscape design. They provide clean definition between planting areas, suppress weeds naturally, retain soil moisture, and create a finished, polished look that looks great year-round, even in the middle of a Colorado winter when plants are dormant. And unlike lawn, rock never needs mowing, fertilizing, or watering.

Rock Types We Use

Crusher Fines

Compacted decomposed granite that creates a smooth, natural-looking surface perfect for paths and patios. It compacts firmly underfoot, drains well, and has a warm, earthy color that complements native plantings beautifully.

River Rock

Smooth, rounded stones ranging from 1 to 4 inches. River rock creates a naturalistic, streambed aesthetic and is excellent for drainage swales and large open areas. Available in a range of warm earth tones.

Lava Rock

Lightweight, porous volcanic rock in deep red or black. Lava rock retains heat, which can benefit plants in shoulder seasons, and its texture provides excellent drainage. A bold, dramatic choice for modern xeriscape designs.

Flagstone

Large, flat stones used for patios, step stones, and feature areas. Colorado sandstone and flagstone blend naturally into the regional landscape and create an elegant hardscape element that lasts decades.

Weed Barrier Installation

Every rock installation includes a commercial-grade weed barrier fabric installed beneath the rock layer. This prevents weeds from pushing through the rock over time while still allowing water to drain naturally into the soil. We use permeable barrier materials specifically, so rainfall can reach plant roots in adjacent planting areas.

Design Aesthetics

Rock landscaping works best when combined with plant material, not used alone. We design rock areas to frame and accent drought-tolerant plants, creating contrast between soft organic texture and hard mineral surfaces. The result is a landscape that looks designed, not abandoned. Decorative boulders, gravel pathways, and flagstone accents add depth and structure to any xeriscape plan.

CSU Rebate Eligibility

Permeable rock and gravel used as part of an approved xeriscape conversion qualify for the Colorado Springs Utilities turf removal rebate program. We document every project to ensure maximum rebate eligibility, including the square footage of turf removed and replaced with qualifying hardscape and plantings.
